Recently, our IVS students had a wonderful time learning about Friendship thanks to a special visit from Puppets in Education, organized by the Vermont Family Network! 🤝 The puppets taught important skills like kindness, empathy, problem-solving, and how to compromise. They also incorporated movement breaks during the show!

And just yesterday, IVS students took a trip to Barton Graded School to watch a TIGER performance put on by Plymouth State University!
T-- Trust Yourself
I -- Include Others
G --Give to Others
E -- Empower Others to Make Good Choices
R -- Respect Yourself and Others

So many smiles and great takeaways!Thank you all for such a great show!

The Committee seeks input on the concept of a regional Elementary and Middle School to be constructed adjacent to the Lake Region High School.

The Committee will present an overview of this plan and alternatives, offer an opportunity for questions, and listen to feedback from attendees.

OCSU faces significant challenges that require the attention and cooperation of the community to address: the rising costs of education and the subsequent increases in taxation; the need to provide an excellent education for our students in safe, welcoming, and productive settings; the need to alleviate staffing shortages by providing a safe, sustainable, and enriching work environment; and to house our educational enterprise in school buildings that are efficient, functional, and cost-effective.

To meet these challenges, OCSU assessed the current state of our school buildings and facilities, considered the implications of forming a central middle school, and analyzed multiple scenarios involving the renovations of our buildings in combination with new construction. The architecture firm of Truex-Cullins was hired to assist in our analyses.

Truex-Cullins' work has shown that the least expensive option in the long term is to build a new regional elementary and middle school adjacent to Lake Region Union High School.

Whether to move in this direction will be the choice of the eligible voters of the seven towns that make up the Supervisory Union. This Forum will help educate these voters that ultimately shape the quality of education in our community.

For more information please link to the Long-Term Planning section of the OCSU website: (https://www.ocsu.org) including the Truex-Cullins reports and the work of the Committee.

As part of our kindness core value at IVS, 3rd and 4th graders are taking part in Honor Their Courage, a Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) initiative to raise awareness and funds that provide life-changing programs for wounded warriors and their families. Students will learn age-appropriate information about veterans, including material on military values, reading lists, and word association exercises. Each student will also add an American Flag to our IVS green in honor of Veterans Day. If you'd like to support our mission of giving back, please donate here and feel free to share this post:

Yesterday both 3rd Grades collaborated on a Project Based Learning activity where students planned a party! This activity required students to use addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills to come in under budget. After the imaginative parties were planned, we had a real party and all celebrated Ms. Doucett returning and cried as we said goodbye to Mr. Kyle leaving as the long term substitute. We wish Mr. Kyle good luck and are excited to build relationships with Ms. Doucet!

The primary goal of the behavioral threat assessment is to prevent harm and promote the safety of everyone and everything involved:
the person showing unsafe behavior
students and staff impacted by the unsafe behavior
the school building and related property

Threat assessment is not an adversarial process; many threats are a cry for help. Having a team approach with a clear process allows for the safety of everyone involved. The process is designed to address, evaluate, and manage threatening behavior and troubling situations that may impact school safety. OCSU’s guide is based on best practices created by the U.S. Secret Service & U.S. Department of Education, and the need to follow these best practices are mandated by the Senate and House.

To learn more about behavioral threat assessment in OCSU, please visit this website. To report a potential incident please do one of the following:
Contact your school principal or the superintendent of schools (1-802-525-1204)
Email the team at: crisis@ocsu.org

Huge congrats to our new Fall 2025 Student Council! 🎉

These students were selected by their classroom teachers for consistently demonstrating our school's core values: Learning, Passion, Kindness, Community, and Safety.

We're especially excited that the council will be delivering our bi-weekly newscasts to the whole school.
